2019年12月17-18日、台湾新竹サイエンスパークにある工業技術研究院（ITRI)にてITRI-東北大学協力協定覚書更新調印式と、ITRI-東北大学-NICT-YRPのワークショップが開催されました。ITRIは、経済部傘下の職員数約6,000名の台湾を代表する研究機関で、多くのスピンオフ企業を育てており、その代表格の企業は、1987年に設立された世界最大の専業ファンドリーメーカーである台湾セミコンダクター（TSMC）です。
【ワークショップ】
18日の朝9時半から開催されたITRI-東北大学-NICT-YRPのワークショップは、東北大学とITRIで毎年仙台と台湾ITRI新竹で交互に開催されています。 ワークショップは、朝9時半より、ITRI-ICL (Information and Communications Laboratory)研究所の5G Program OfficeのCTOであるDr. Li Fung Chang 、東北大電気通信機構長の山田博仁教授からの開会挨拶で始まり、昼食やコーヒーブレイクを挟んで夕５時まで行われました。発表テーマは最近話題の５G、５Gフロントフォール用コヒーレント光通信およびデバイス、災害対策用の衛星を利用したメッセージ通信、IoT、Beyond５G, ６Gのコンセプトなどの多様な話題が多く、双方から発表された最新の研究成果についての議論、共同研究課題などについて活発な意見交換が行われました。総ての発表後、ITRI-ICL副所長であるDr. Pang-An Ting （丁邦安）と東北大学の安達文幸教授の挨拶・講評で盛会裏に終了しました。 残念ながら、今回はNICTからの参加者はいませんでしたが、参加者総数は80名程度と大変盛況でした。
